Everyone should be able to book a room, register a child or renew a membership on their own, whatever device or assistive technology they use. Hallkeeper is built for the public pages families and renters use, and for the staff pages centers work in.
Our standard
We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at level AA. That includes WCAG 2.1 AA, the standard the U.S. Department of Justice set for state and local government websites under ADA Title II, which applies to park districts, cities and other public centers.
Status: partially conformant. Most of Hallkeeper meets WCAG 2.2 AA. The gaps we know about are listed below, and we're working on them.
What we do
- Every page works with a keyboard alone, with a visible focus outline and a "skip to content" link.
- Every form field has a label. Errors are listed at the top of the form, linked to their fields, and announced to screen readers.
- Pages reflow on phones and at 400% zoom without sideways scrolling.
- Text meets contrast minimums. If a center picks a light brand color, header text switches to dark so it stays readable.
- Status isn't shown by color alone. Badges carry words, and tables have proper headers.
- Keyboard shortcuts on staff pages can be turned off.
- Every page is rendered and checked automatically on each change, and we review the product against WCAG 2.2 AA by hand. The most recent review was in October 2026.
Known limitations
- Photos of spaces are described generically ("Photo 1 of Main Hall"). Letting centers write their own descriptions is planned.
- What centers write: the wording of agreements, waivers and program descriptions, and any documents they share, come from each center.
- Embedded booking widget: on a center's own website, the page around the widget is the center's.
- Card payments (when enabled) use our payment processor's secure card form.
- [Screen reader testing with NVDA, JAWS and VoiceOver across the main family journeys is planned. Results will be listed here.]
Report a barrier
If something stops you from booking, registering or paying, tell us at [accessibility email]. Include the page and what happened. We'll reply within [2 business days] and fix it, or help you finish what you were doing another way. You can always contact the center directly to book or register by phone or in person.
For public agencies
[An Accessibility Conformance Report (VPAT 2.5, WCAG edition) is available on request.]
